As of compatibility Problems with it’s virtual BIOS, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 RC hangs on boot Screen when installing on VMWare ESX and you’ll see the following Screen forever (or at least as long as you do not power off the virtual machine or Close the console ;) ):
To work around this Problem, you can Change the BIOS Settings of the Virtual Machine to use EFI instead of the Virtual Machine Standard BIOS boot Firmware.
- To do this, Power Off the Virtual Machine and click “VM – Edit Settings”
- On the “Options” tab in the Virtual Machine Settings Dialog, click “Boot Options” and Change the Firmware to use EFI.
- Click OK and reboot the machine (Boot from your Installation media again, as you have to re-run Setup!)
- Now Setup your Windows 2012 Server and install VMWare Tools. Done… :)
